Study Is Testament to Incompetence

"The Quist and Chapela study is a testament to technical incompetence."

That's a description of a study that was retracted by Nature, which had argued that genetically-modified corn was spreading out of control in Mexico. This quote comes from Matthew Metz, one of several scientists who co-authored a critique of the Nature study.

Often poorly done studies receive the most public attention because they may reveal "startling" conclusions, conclusions the public wants to hear or have newsworthy appeal. The stories are picked up by the general media: TV, radio, dailies. Unfortunately, retractions are neglected because they are not as interesting. And on go public misconceptions and stereotypes of biotech/biology. Thanks for the update!
