This may surprise you, but ACSH's Jeff Stier would like to offer a seat at the table to White House Chef Sam Kass for serving Gulf Coast shrimp in the White House. Though the BP oil spill has been contained enough to resume fishing, many consumers still question the safety of Gulf coast seafood. But FDA inspectors have been using smell tests to sniff seafood for chemical odors, and Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg declared last week “that Gulf seafood lovers everywhere can be confident eating and enjoying the fish and shrimp that will be coming out of this area.”
It is to the credit of Kass, who we’ve criticized many times in the past, for pointing out when something is actually safe. We’d also like to give a hat-tip to Obamafoodorama.com for publicizing this story.
