'3 Billion and Counting' movie on malaria death toll from DDT ban opens Friday

By ACSH Staff — Sep 15, 2010

National Review Online took some time away from discussing yesterday’s primary results to publish ACSH’s Dr. Elizabeth Whelan’s review of 3 Billion and Counting, Dr. Rutledge Taylor’s new documentary on how the worldwide ban on DDT has caused countless malaria deaths:

In his dissection of the rise of the environmental movement and the fall of science, Dr. Taylor not only educates us, but he also sparks outrage about the unforeseen consequences of a scientifically ignorant chemical witchhunt, one that has caused untold human suffering and billions of deaths, primarily among children.

Among the numerous public health scientists who offer expert commentary in the film are our own Drs. Whelan and Gilbert Ross. The documentary opens Friday and runs through Sept. 23 at the Quad Cinema in Manhattan, and then will be shown Sept. 24-30 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 in West Hollywood, California.
