Natural foods have no chemicals right? Think again.

The way that some folks push all-natural foods, you d reasonably assume they contain no chemicals but boy would you be wrong!

623545_52687286The way that some folks push all-natural foods, you d reasonably assume they contain no chemicals but boy would you be wrong! James Kennedy, a high school chemistry teacher in Melbourne, Australia explodes that myth with a resounding bang. On his website he presents lists of chemicals in various foods and you d be dumbfounded to see how long the lists are. We d like to remind you that these are not added chemicals, just ones that make up the normal composition of the food in question. Mr. Kennedy says, As a Chemistry teacher, I want to erode the fear that many people have of chemicals, and demonstrate that nature evolves compounds, mechanisms and structures far more complicated and unpredictable than anything we can produce in the lab. Mr. Kennedy s clever presentation was highlighted by Andrew Revkin s blog on the NY Times Dot Earth site.

ACSH s Dr. Elizabeth Whelan adds, This is a delightful way to bring the truth about foods to consumers, by someone who, like ACSH, gains no benefit from doing so. Indeed, ACSH s Holiday Dinner Menu has been pointing out how even our fanciest holiday dinners contain chemicals that, at high doses, are considered rodent carcinogens. Kudos to Mr. Kennedy for bringing a fresh look at the truth about chemicals in foods.
