Dr. Whelan, President of...CSPI?

Here at the American Council on Science and Health, under the leadership of our president, Dr. Elizabeth Whelan, we've always thought of ourselves as cautious, non-panicky promoters of common sense on nutrition matters. And we tend to think of the Center for Science in the Public Interest as scaremongers, always looking for new foods to denounce.

Here at the American Council on Science and Health, under the leadership of our president, Dr. Elizabeth Whelan, we've always thought of ourselves as cautious, non-panicky promoters of common sense on nutrition matters. And we tend to think of the Center for Science in the Public Interest as scaremongers, always looking for new foods to denounce. So imagine our surprise when a slip-up in an August 20 article (about confusing new FDA labeling regulations) in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that this long-time breach between the two organizations had unexpectedly been overcome:

...Added CSPI President Elizabeth Whelan, ScD, MPH, "People are confused enough. Why do we want to give food companies more leeway in what they claim?"

If people weren't "confused enough" before, they will be now (but we like JAMA anyway).
