In a radical new law approved in San Francisco on Tuesday, retailers will be required to display the amount of radiation each cell phone emits, even though there’s no conclusive scientific evidence that these devices pose any health risks.
If ACSH staffers had their way, Dr. Ross would have explained to the mayor of San Francisco that “the overwhelming consensus of scientific investigation is that the use of cell phones is not associated with any adverse health effects, and the only risk they pose are automobile accidents.”
ACSH’s Dr. Elizabeth Whelan adds, “Of course labeling cell phones in this manner may well scare consumers into believing these warnings have some actual beneficial effect on reducing one’s risk of harm, which is false.”
