On a “lighter” note, MSNBC.com ran a column about the debut of a new TV series called Huge, quoting some as calling it an “advance for fat acceptance on TV.” The show revolves around a group of overweight teenagers whose parents sent them to fat camp in order to lose weight.

On a “lighter” note, MSNBC.com ran a column about the debut of a new TV series called Huge, quoting some as calling it an “advance for fat acceptance on TV.” The show revolves around a group of overweight teenagers whose parents sent them to fat camp in order to lose weight.

"Fat people are supposed to be ashamed, supposed to want to change, supposed to want to look like 'thinspiration' pictures. So when someone like Willamina says they are not buying into that, no one knows how to handle it. That to me is a good thing," said Deb Lemire, president of the Association for Size Diversity and Health.

ACSH's Dr. Elizabeth Whelan expresses concern about the show’s acceptance of obesity. “This is a health issue, and people seem to be ignoring that. I doubt substituting a show focusing on cigarette smoking as opposed to obesity would get the same positive response.”
