The Media and I: Artificial Intelligence

By Henry I. Miller, MS, MD — Mar 27, 2025
In a recent conversation with radio host Mark Hahn (KSCJ), I shared my optimism and also some concerns about where Artificial Intelligence is heading.

My conversation with Mark left me both excited and uneasy. I explained the difference between traditional “generative” AI, which analyzes vast datasets to summarize trends or findings, and the more unsettling new wave, “Agentic AI.”

As a physician and molecular biologist, I’ve marveled at AI’s ability to transform medicine. Scanning and summarizing journal articles, augmenting care GI Genius, which assists in colonoscopies by spotting lesions our eyes might miss. However, a friend of mine was nearly tricked by a fake email that appeared to be from her boss - a chilling reminder of how easily criminals can exploit “agentic AI” that doesn’t just analyze; it acts.

This duality of helpful innovation on the one hand and grave danger on the other makes me believe we must tread carefully, keeping our wits about us.
