Screen Shot 2013-09-26 at 1.45.33 PMLast week, we covered the defeat of a bill in New Hampshire that would have required the labeling of genetically modified foods. The bill was recommended for defeat by the Environment and Agriculture Committee 12 to 8. And the American Council on Science and Health was one of the scientific organizations referenced in the recommendations justifying the defeat of this bill.

According to the majority who voted to kill this inane and unscientific bill, Foods made with genetically engineered components are safe according to the Food and Drug Administration, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, The American Medicine Association, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The World Health Organization, National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Medicine, The American Council on Science and Health, the European Commission, the American Society of Cell Biology and the International Council for Science among others.

Not to toot our own horn or anything, but we have been proponents of the safety of GMO foods since they first came into widespread use. And, as we ve said in the past, for those people who really don t want to consume GMOs, they can find out which products have GMO ingredients easily enough. Or those who wish to attract the superstitious who fear biotech food can label their products as GMO free or some such.

And one last note: ACSH s publications on biotech-food will be released soon: Watch for them!
