A non-mercurial discussion about mercury

By ACSH Staff — May 26, 2011

Concern about mercury levels in everything from fish to drinking water is enduring fodder for health scares. The truth, though, is that our environmental exposure to mercury is not a real cause for concern. We were, therefore, pleased to see in yesterday’s The Wall Street Journal that Willie Soon and Paul Driessen had written a well-informed response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s new, even lower requirements for U.S. power plants’ already low mercury emission standards. Soon and Driessen consider such emissions in light of naturally-occurring mercury in the environment, walking their readers through the non-threatening realities of the situation. This is recommended reading for everyone, from the curious to those unduly concerned. Further reading on the topic is available here, from ACSH.
