Today’s Investor’s Business Daily includes an editorial lauding the new paper by ACSH’s Dr. Josh Bloom on the central role that the American pharmaceutical companies played in taming the AIDS epidemic. Under the headline, “Capitalism Kills AIDS,” the paper comments:

...it was not government or academics that discovered the principal drugs to treat and prevent AIDS. It was the pharmaceutical industry that fought the battle, discovering the seven steps in which HIV attacks human cells and how those complex mechanisms made HIV so hard to attack via vaccines.

ACSH’s Dr. Elizabeth Whelan says that the writer of the unsigned editorial “understands the broader implications of the paper — and the importance of preserving our pharmaceutical industry, not regulating it to the extent of outsourcing it to Asia.”
